Sir Redmond Barry is best known for presiding over the trial of Ned Kelly, sentencing Ned to death in late 1880. Barry didn't last much longer dying 12 days after Ned. Born in Ballyclough, County Cork in Ireland Barry was a complex character destined to leave an impact. He is also responsible as one of the founders of the Melbourne Public Library ( now the State Library of Victoria. His statue stands out front of the State Library in Swanston St.
