Welcome to the Hot topics website. This site has been developed to provide a comprehensive list of current information and links, in a easy to find searchable website. The Hot Topics project was originally developed in order to try and assess a perceived need - that being an accurate and informative current affairs issue site available on the Internet.

It was assumed before development of the site, that quite a number of library services in Victoria were starting to put together various subject listings of various Internet sources on their individual home pages. This was perceived as a waste of time and information due to the duplication of similar resources in a number of areas which were all basically trying to achieve the same result - easy and accessible information listings on current issues topics from the Internet.

The main aim of this project has been to set up and assess a scheme whereby a quality selected single set of Internet based "Hot Topics" are maintained across a number of Victorian Public Libraries. A few libraries services already had a "current events" / "hot topics" section or general subject listing on their home pages. In many cases, these were identical, or similar topics, being maintained and duplicated at different sites by different staff. On a statewide basis, this duplication of work represented a waste of time and energy.

What is unique about this project is how the best sites are selected. Each site included is quality assessed by the individual contributors before inclusion. The emphasis on material to be included is also of a Victorian/ Australian bias.
