Archibald, John Feltham (12-01-1856 to 10-09-1919)
Category: Journalist

Born at Kildare near Geelong in 1856, Archibald was best known for starting The Bulletin with a fellow journalist, John Haynes on 31 January 1880. He preferred to be known as Jules Francois rather than John Feltham. Archibald edited The Bulletin until he sold it in 1914. He encouraged such authors as Henry Lawson and 'Banjo' Paterson, and artists like Norman Lindsay and Will Dyson. He also founded The Lone Hand in 1907. He was also literary editor of Smith's Weekly.
