Cure Your Information Overload Disorder

Since the introduction of the Internet and the boom in information technology, there is increasing anxiety as we strive to keep up with the world around us.

I.O.D. (Information Overload Disorder) is approaching epidemic proportions particularly in professionals and white-collar workers.

Common symptoms include frustration, time wasting and cost inefficiencies.Several studies have shown that somewhere between 60 to 80 percent of people searching for information on the Web failed to find what they were looking for.

The good news…there is a cure for Information Overload Disorder. It’s local, inexpensive, credible and just a phone call away – it’s @ your library.

Librarians are the knowledge managers of the new century. Trained as professional navigators to sort through the maze of information they are accessible and customer focused.

Don’t be an I.O.D. victim – doing business @ your library will save you time and money.

Doing Business @ your library: About the campaign

@ your library originated in the US to showcase the value of libraries and librarians, and to remind the public that libraries are dynamic, modern community centres for learning, information and entertainment. The campaign’s goal is to increase awareness about the vibrancy, vitality and real value of today's libraries, to galvanize public support and ultimately influence public policy and impact funding. As the American Library Association put it, 'While libraries are popular, they are often taken for granted.'

The year-long campaign by Victoria's public libraries has six themes targeted at different audiences, including small businesses.

Doing Business @ your library, the theme for July, highlights the extraordinary array of business resources within public libraries. From local statistics to free online business magazines, libraries are the place to get fast, accurate information.
